Adding Usable to Microsoft 365
Grab the manifest for the app you want, then jump to the bit that matches you — installing it yourself, rolling it out across a team, or waiting for the store.
Get your app's manifest
Each app installs from its own manifest. Copy the URL to paste it where a dialog asks for one, or Download the .xml when you need the file itself. Word and Excel are live today; the rest are on the way.
Install it yourself
Best for trying Usable on your own machine. Use the manifest you copied or downloaded above — the exact steps depend on where you're working.
Word, Excel & PowerPoint on the web
Download the manifest
.xmlfor your app above.In the app: Home → Add-ins → More Add-ins → My Add-ins.
Choose Upload My Add-in, pick the
.xml, and select Upload.
Word, Excel & PowerPoint on Windows
Save the downloaded
.xmlinto a shared folder — a network share or a folder shared on your network.File → Options → Trust Center → Trust Center Settings → Trusted Add-in Catalogs; add the folder, tick Show in Menu, restart Office.
Insert → Add-ins → My Add-ins → Shared Folder → choose Usable → Add.
Word, Excel & PowerPoint on macOS
Quit the app, then drop the downloaded
.xmlinto~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.<App>/Data/Documents/wef(createwefif needed).Reopen the app: Insert → Add-ins → My Add-ins — Usable is under Developer Add-ins.
Outlook URL works directly
Open Get Add-ins, then go to My add-ins.
Under Custom Add-ins → Add a custom add-in → Add from URL.
Paste the Outlook manifest you copied above and select Install.
Roll it out to a team
For more than a couple of people, an admin deploys the add-ins centrally — nobody sideloads, and it lands on every device automatically. This is the recommended path for managed machines.
Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center → Settings → Integrated apps.
Choose Upload custom apps and provide the manifest URL (or the downloaded file) for each host.
Assign to everyone, specific groups, or just yourself, and pick fixed deployment to auto-pin it to the ribbon.
Save and allow a few hours to propagate — Usable then appears for users on web and desktop, with no sideloading.
Get it from the store
One-click install from AppSource and the in-app Get Add-ins store is on the way. Until then, use a manifest above — the steps are quick.
